An overview of gifted education in Singapore:

-the government has recognized that gifted students need a higher degree of mental stimulation then their peers.

-they believe that their country will benefit if the needs of the gifted are met.

-they have established a Gifted Education Program to help develop an intellectual intensity and higher level of instruction for their students.

-the term gifted is used to include many kinds of strengths; however they feel there are a few specific areas giftedness will show itself.

-they include intellectual ability, music, arts, leadership ability and psychomotor ability.

-the Gifted Education Program‘s objective is to establish humane values, intellectual rigidity and creativity in students in order to prepare them for leadership and service to country and society.

-also, to develop strategies for self-directed lifelong learning, individual excellence, a strong social conscience, moral values and strong leadership qualities.

-they have developed many different programs for gifted children including humanities, computers, leadership, science and math.

-their enrichment programs are designed to develop higher level thinking skills, experimental learning, problem solving skills, small group activities, support the study of real life situations, research skills and independent study.
