Reading

"The greatest gift is a passion for reading. It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites, it gives you knowledge of the world and experience of a wide kind. It is a moral illumination." Elizabeth Hardwick

It can be such a joy to see a child with a book and then asking all kinds of questions. Books provide children with an outlet and an escape to other worlds.

It's a great idea for children to see their parent's "wrapped up" in a good book. If mom and dad are doing it must be a good thing.

Gifted children often read before they start kindergarten. Parents recognize their love of books at an early age. It can sometimes be difficult to keep up with their desire for new and exciting titles.

All children need to develop an interest and love of books. Reading to your child is one of the best ways to make this happen!

Find out what interests your child has and then get a library card! Taking your child to the library is a great way to introduce them to the world of books and a wide variety of titles.

Also, at a young age children may enjoy sharing a book with you. In other words, you read a page and they read a page. Anything you can do to encourage your child to read will be helpful!

I have compiled a short list of books about gifted children that I find helpful and informative.
