Public or Private School
Many parents may be asking themselves which school is best for their child, public or private.
The answer may not be as straightforward as some might think. Every parent wants to do what's best for their child. To do this I think that the child's opinions on the subject must be considered.
For example, my daughter is starting high school in September. She checked out a local private school and asked us if she could go there instead.
We all visited the school, talked to the administrators and decided it would be a good choice for her.
Since she was involved in the choice, she is excited and looking forward to school.
Parent's of gifted children know that this is not always the case. I am hoping that she will be properly challenged and her love of school will return!
I am confident that high school will offer more subject choices and within there she will find things she loves learning about.
I had mixed feelings when elementary school ended. I was sad that she would no longer be in a small school environment and that I would be less involved with the school itself.
However, I was excited because she would be discovering new and exciting things in high school. This is not to say that I'm not a bit nervous about her starting high school. I am! Nor am I naive in assuming because it's a private school nothing “bad” will happen there.
I am looking forward to it with a positive attitude! Public or private? It's your choice! But remember to involve your child in the decision!
