A brief overview of gifted education Russia, Poland.

-the Polish system requires testing at various levels.

-all non-public schools are considered private, therefore all religious schools are considered private.

-special classes and courses for gifted students exist and take into consideration social skills and abilities.

-teachers have the right to choose from textbooks assembled by the Ministry of Education.

-formal education is not obligatory until age 7.

Russia:

-schools for the gifted and talented work in combination with theatres and conservatories to provide higher level training in ballet, performing arts, and music.

-Children with superior abilities in physics, biology, math and other sciences selected during nationwide competitions are registered in special educational institutions which are associated with universities and serve as laboratory schools.

-some high schools specialize in a particular area of study.

-doing very well at the high school level helps in the chances of getting accepted into the highly competitive universities.
