Being Gifted: An eight year olds point of view

What being gifted means to an eight year old:

I think it means a boy or girl who is smarter and learns quicker then the average student. Gifted children usually have special talents in a subject or other activity.

Sometimes when I talk to my friends they don't understand me. That's because I use words they don't understand.

To me, being smart is like a privilege, to be able to learn quick and not struggle.

I like to compete, I want to be the best. I want people to know how good I am because I am proud of it.

I want teachers to give me credit for my good work and say things like “good job or good work.” I don’t give up easily, I keep trying until I get to be good at it.

If you would ask me “what is the best and worst part of giftedness?" I’d say the best part is knowing that I will learn what I want to quicker and be good at it.

The worst part is being bored in class a lot of the time because teachers don’t realize that I need extra work when I’m finished and everyone else isn’t.

I am very confident in myself and like encouraging friends and family to do their best.

I like math and science because if you don’t know one thing you can’t move on to learn the rest.

I think that skipping grade two was good and wish I could skip grade four!
