Extra Curricular Activities

Extra Curricular Activities can help children with many things. It can improve their feelings about themselves, their social situation, release energy, and give them a sense of pride.

These include such things as sports, art, music, crafts, clubs, camps and others. The important thing is not to over schedule children and to be sure there is a balance.

Gifted children especially enjoy participating outside school and home. This participation can serve to challenge them and get them interacting with other children on their level and just let them have fun.

This after school participation can serve to keep children, especially teenagers, from getting involved with peers who may get them into trouble if they are bored.

Sometimes parents can become over involved with their child’s chosen sport. An example is a hockey dad that puts pressure on his son to do better. This can cause stress in their lives.

Involvement in sports or clubs is a good thing for children as long as they get a say in which ones they do and they are not stressed by them. The purpose is to make things more fun and give them a sense of pride and involvement.

During summer vacation, gifted children may get bored quicker than the average child. A day camp, learning a new instrument, a course on the internet, or more sports may help keep them busy and entertained.

Doing things together as a family is a great way to keep communication open and enjoy time together. It's important to just have fun and enjoy summer safely!
